Creatures Swimming - David Symmonds Self-Portrait - Weeki
Wachee
Background
I am drawn to the Sea...love the feel of river current carrying me downstream...sit very
still while Loons cross the lake, their calls reverberating in the silence...
My work as an artist is to convey the force and emotion of these meditations, unlocking some of the
hidden mysticism of the Experience through my medium.
The seeds of creative thought and love of the water were planted early. Growing
up surrounded by the Great Lakes, the son of a professional photographer, these two elements became inexorably linked.
With this unique access to the medium of Photography pervading my earliest memories
I went through various permutations. Early commercial work morphed into more experimental work as I explored the
boundaries, history, and art of my craft.
Almost 20 years ago I came to New York City and was energized by the possibilities
these islands of creativity held. As an artist and itinerant mariner I knew I had found a place filled with art and
surrounded by water.
Since that time, through intensive study, immersion in the creative process and
fueled by public exhibitions, I have sought out the synthesis and synergies of life and art. Combining this life, and
my art, to develop a visual language and body of work that communicates the deep connection I feel, and we all feel,
with the elements of the natural world...and the Waters that surround us.
Mission
We are all drawn to the waters edge, many of us even further. Whether it be a walk on the boardwalk, a run along
the river, a day at the beach or watching the tides for good surf we all get something from our communion with this element.
My motivation as an artist and the mission of ArtQuatic is to bring the essence of this connection with the seas, lakes and
rivers of our world into peoples daily lives. Creating a water element in home and office environments, a place for
soothing meditation and connection with one's Self.
